You just accept it wholeheartedly because it works. Inexplicably, I loved this book! You know it's a damn good story when you don't even question that someone can talk to a ghost.

For this reason, I'm going to let my original rating stand. Alex and Sid's story still moved me to near tears. The concept and sentiment haven't changed though.

This book wouldn't get a pass from a publisher or readers today, so as bigoted as the world still is, we have grown as a society. The references to old technology and TV shows aren't a huge deal, but the casual sexism (referring to someone weak as a pussy, for example), certain words choices (so offensive, I'm unwilling to repeat them), and homophobia (Alex's friend, Andy, calling Alex twinkle toes and princess) were shocking and gross. This book was written in 2011, and, I'm sad to report, it hasn't aged well. I recently saw a friend add this book to their TBR list and, since I own it, decided to reread.
